History
Christ the King Parish, Hatia, stands as one of the most exemplary and vibrant parishes in the Archdiocese of Ranchi. Since its handover to the Salesians in 1979, the parish has experienced remarkable growth both spiritually and numerically — from around 1,000 faithful at the beginning to over 5,000 devoted Catholics today.
The pastoral and missionary mission of the parish is carried out in collaboration with four religious congregations: the Ursuline Sisters (present before the Salesians arrived), the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians (FMA), the Sisters of St. Charles Borromeo, and the Salesians of Don Bosco
(SDB). In addition, the Secular Institute of the Sisters of Don Bosco, founded by Fr. Joe D’Souza, also Plays an active role in the parish’s apostolic activities.
Today, the parish manages two high schools educating nearly 2,000 students, three middle and primary schools with about 2,500 children, three hostels accommodating 450 students, and a dispensary serving the local community. The parish is organized into nine units and three sub-stations, fostering close pastoral care and participation.
Various parish groups — including the Catholic Sabha, Mahila Sangh, YCS,YCM, CLC, Youth Club, and BCCs — contribute significantly to nurturing a living and vibrant faith community.
This Parish consists of Five Religious women Congregations namely, FMA, MJEP, OSU, Aloysius Sisters and St. Charles Borromeo. Hatia Parish can truly be described as a cradle of vocations, hosting an Apostolic School (SDB), a Novitiate of the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians, and a house for candidates aspiring to join the Sisters of St. Charles Borromeo. Vocations continue to flourish from this fertile ground of faith.
The missionary zeal of the parish is further expressed through its commitment to four out-stations — Rurungkocha, kharsidag, Tumbaguttu and Bichna — where the work of evangelization, education, and social upliftment continues with great dedication.
