A Study Center is a dedicated learning space designed to support students in achieving academic and professional excellence. It provides a structured, motivating environment where learners can focus on their studies with access to quality resources, experienced faculty, and modern facilities. Study centers often offer guidance, mentoring, and personalized support to help students strengthen concepts, improve skills, and build confidence.

History

Don Bosco Youth Centre, Hatia, was officially opened on 31st January 1975, though its roots trace back to 1960, when Archbishop Nicholas Kujur invited the Salesians to start a Technical School in Ranchi. After many delays and renewed efforts by Archbishop Pius Kerketta, the project was revived, and under the leadership of Fr. Guido Colussi, the work began in 1973. The Don Bosco Hindi Medium High School started in January 1975, and Christ the King Parish was entrusted to the Salesians in May 1975.

Over the years, the centre grew from a barren land into a vibrant campus with the apostolic school, high school, parish, and technical school (later shifted to Kokar in 1987). The Apostolic School has nurtured around 750 boys, producing 52 Salesians. The High School, affiliated with the Bihar Board, has served the local community with consistent academic achievements.

Christ the King Parish, which began with 1,000 Catholics, now has over 5,000 faithful, supported by various religious congregations and parish groups. It runs multiple schools, hostels, and a dispensary, and remains a centre for vocations and faith formation.

The Hatia community also manages two mission out-stations:

  • Rurungkocha (22 km away): with a primary school and hostel serving over 900 children, focused on education and social upliftment.
  • Bichna (40 km away): under the Khunti diocese, being developed into a future Salesian parish.

As the second Salesian institution in the New Delhi Province, Don Bosco Youth Centre became the cradle of the Salesian mission in Chotanagpur. Approaching its Silver Jubilee in 2000, it stands as a living tribute to Fr. Guido Colussi’s vision that the Salesian work from Hatia-Hesag would spread across Ranchi and Chotanagpur — a prophecy that has indeed come true.
